The youth advisory committees of Hobart, Clarence and Glenorchy City Councils teamed up to create a Youth Week event for 2018 which celebrated the diverse experience of being young in Tasmania.
Youth Week Tasmania (#youthweektas18) was held on Friday 13 April from 5-8 pm at The Underground – 7 Elizabeth Street Hobart (across from Franklin Square).
Colony 47 was proud to collaborate with the young people we work with to create an engaging stall that provided information for young people around employment, life skills and housing support.
The young women at Mara House put on a very popular pizza making demonstration which included conversations around healthy eating, budgeting and the social aspect of preparing and sharing food.
Housing Connect Area Coordinator, Christina Augustine, said the events success is a credit to the strong collaboration between the councils and the focus on ensuring the content and style of the event was driven by the young people themselves.
“This year’s Youth Week Event really demonstrated the creativity, ingenuity and depth of our young people in southern Tasmania and I am sure that everyone who attended felt a sense of pride in what they achieved,” said Ms Augustine.
#YOUTHWEEKTAS18 gave young people the opportunity to showcase their talents and skills whilst acknowledging their positive contributions to the community and we are all looking forward to seeing what they come up with next year.
