Employers

Our Service Delivery Plan for employers.

We believe employers want to take on young Tasmanian workers. We develop young people’s work readiness at a place called ‘Project 47’. We ensure young people referred from Project 47 match your needs.

Project 47 is an initiative of Colony 47, delivering the Australian Government’s Transition to Work programme. Colony 47 is one of Tasmania’s most respected community organisations. Project 47 prepares young Tasmanians aged 15–21 for work. The participants undertake a range of work readiness projects leading to a job. Project 47 provides a dedicated Employment Engagement Team whose role is to understand employer needs and the opportunities that can be realised from employing young Tasmanians.

We are the single provider of ‘Transition to Work’ youth employment services in Southern Tasmania from 2016 to 2020 and we commit to:

Understanding and responding to your needs

  • A dedicated, mobile Employment Engagement Team that can visit your workplace at your convenience

  • A profile setting out our understanding of your workplace and the specific requirements of all your entry-level positions for young people

  • After our first meeting, a single point of contact and real-time account management services to ensure you only tell us your requirements once

  • Instant communications through a dedicated employer hotline and online services

Matching your business with motivated young people who are ready to work

  • Sourcing, screening and placing young people from Southern Tasmania to meet your business needs

  • Providing low impact opportunities to introduce young people to your workplace through work experience (up to four weeks) and work tasters (as little as a few hours)

  • An open invitation to visit Transition to Work (located in Hobart, Glenorchy, Sorell, New Norfolk and Huonville) to meet potential candidates and observe the talents they could bring to your business

  • Matching the needs of seasonal industries, including support for worker mobility

Supporting your investment in a young worker

  • Specialised support for your new young employees for up to 26 weeks after commencement – in a format agreed with you and the young person. This can include a specialised package to address company policies, WHS requirements and performance expectations.

  • Opportunity to utilise ‘The Deal’ – a tailored process where your business, the young person and TtW make written commitments on what each party will do to make a job placement successful over the long-term, based on mutual respect

  • Access to generous wage subsidies of up to $6,500 over 12 months to cover the costs of taking on new starters

Offering access to networks built over decades

  • Seamless integration with our partner organisation JobNet – a provider of Australian Apprenticeship Support Network services in Tasmania

  • Facilitation of Group Training and Labour Hire arrangements where required

  • Strong links to all major providers of training services in Southern Tasmania and the capacity to coordinate pre-employment checks, licenses and training
