24 hour accommodation for young women
“Staying at Mara House has given me lots of support and encouragement to do the right thing. I feel safe when I’m at Mara.” – Sarah, 16.
Mara House provides 24 hour supported accommodation for up to six young women aged 13-18 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. It can also provide emergency accommodation. The service accommodates an average of 50 young women a year and aims to support young women to build their resilience and a pathway out of homelessness.
Young women who stay at Mara may face a wide range of challenges including being isolated from family and their community, being a victim of violence or having trouble at school.
Colony 47 offers a place for a young woman to live, while being supported to reconnect with family, education and community and either return home or move into long term suitable accommodation.
Young women who stay at Mara House are given the opportunity to develop practical skills such as budgeting, cooking, cleaning, and perhaps most importantly to develop good communication skills.
