Colony 47 believes in the power of relationships. We’re always looking for volunteers to help with our important work!
Our volunteers provide assistance across many levels of the organisation including engaging in skilled activities such as assisting on IT and business development projects, helping with our community garden, providing mentoring and offering administrative support. Volunteering is social, recreational and is a great way to build vocational skills. We require all potential volunteers to submit a volunteer application form, participate in a volunteer interview, complete a national police check, and attend an induction session.
Current Volunteer Opportunities
Below is a list of our current opportunities, please download the Position Description for more information about the roles
Community Christmas Lunch
On December 25th every year Colony 47, with all its fabulous volunteers, enjoys providing a traditional lunch, companionship and the spirit of Christmas for Tasmanians in need in the south of the state.
We reach out to Tasmanians from September onwards, asking volunteers to think of others who may not have all the trimmings of the season, who may not have a home to enjoy Christmas in, or who may be alone and not have a family or friends to go to on the day.
Parents and Kids Together (PAKT)
Assist to present PAKT art-based program for groups of 16 people (8 parents and 8 kids) at various schools during school hours.
PAKT is run once a week (1.5 hours per session) at each school below for 7 weeks per term. Volunteers would help out for half an hour either end of the groups to set-up and clean-up, which would mean that they would need to set aside 2.5 hours for each session that they attend.
Volunteers will need to undergo a police check and Working with Vulnerable People check.
The 6 schools involved are:
Austins Ferry Primary – Tuesday afternoon
John Paul II Catholic School – Wednesday afternoon
Windermere Primary (morning) and Rokeby Primary (afternoon) – Thursday
Collinsvale Primary (terms 1 and 3) and Clarendon Vale Primary (terms 2 and 4) – Friday afternoon
Help set up and clean up (involves some light lifting)
Preparation of food and drinks for the families
Assist group facilitators and families during the sessions (may involve getting messy)
It would be great if volunteers had some arts skills – but not necessary!
PAKT School Holiday Programs
Assist to present PAKT art-based program for children & their parents over school holidays.
School holiday programs are variable – enquire for more details.
