COLONY 47 CHRISTMAS LUNCH

One of the better known volunteer opportunities of Colony 47 services is the Christmas Lunch held on Christmas Day. This event provides people who may be on their own with a place to be with other to share the festivities of Christmas day. Preparations are always busy and with over 300 people attending the lunch in 2006, coordination of the sitting, serving of food and the distribution of presents required the coordinated effort of the volunteers. Volunteers make this lunch occur and it is through the 'Friends of Colony' (a volunteer membership group) that these volunteers and donations are accepted. To become a member of Friends of Colony please contact us on (03) 6222 1590

Volunteers

Requirements: November keeps us really busy ensuring all the information about our Christmas lunch gets to the right people. 2 volunteers to help with mailouts and administration tasks associated with the lunch would be wonderful. In the week before christmas we need up to 20 volunteers to assist with the preparation of food, and wrapping of presents . On Christmas Day we need a coordinated group of volunteers to assist in the serving of meals, befriending of individuals and families, distribution of presents and to assist with the all important clean up. Please register your interest to become a formal volunteer for the day by email volunteer@colony47.com.au. or calling (03) 6222 1590

Dates: Various times leading up to and on Christmas day.

Location: For Preparations (47 Davey St, Hobart), For Christmas Day (The Masonic Lodge, Sandy Bay Road). Please check back closer to the day as the growing numbers may mean we need to find a larger venue.

To be a part of the Friends of Colony (a membership volunteer group) which assists to coordinate the Christmas Day lunch and other 'events' in Colony 47 please call Colony 47 on (03) 6222 1590

Sponsors

The Colony 47 Christmas Lunch has been in existence now for 30 years. For many years donations of dollars and produce have enabled the needs of this event to be better met. However over the past few years the numbers of people seeking to attend the lunch on Christmas Day have risen considerably. Over 300 people attended the lunch in 2006. Thanks to the generous donations from sponsors and the general public we were also able to arrange gifts for all who attended. The "Friends of Colony" work with the donations that are made in the weeks leading up to Christmas, planning and organising the resources, to ensure that the day succeeds.

Requirements: Each year we seek donations from businesses and individuals. These contributions are used on the day. Contributions of produce which are not used are dispersed to assist other services in need following the Christmas celebrations. The remainder of donated funds are reinvested into following years or distributed to increase the resilience of these people through out the year. None of the funds collected in the 'Colony 47 Christmas Lunch Donations' are used in any management or administration purposes, 100% of the proceeds are distributed to those in need. So this year, how about calling on those around you to assist us in collecting a contribution towards the needs of these people. Perhaps when you are organising the work Christmas party, you could organise for a 'hat in the ring' and a gold coin donation from everyone towards making other people celebration more celebratory as well. It is a simple, rewarding and small contribution that you and your work colleagues can make this year.

Thank you for consideration and we hope you are able to assist us. Please send your workplace donation by cheque to; Colony 47's Christmas Lunch, GPO Box 1679, Hobart, 7001, or to arrange a credit card payment you can fill in the following form and fax back to 6222 1598 [Contribution Form] or call (03) 6222 1590.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible.
