Project Argonaut

Project Argonaut is a program of Colony 47 inc, which assists men's participation with the community. It consists of three branches, each focused on specific needs:

The Blokes Program (social participation) provides support groups for 'at risk' young men, aged 15 to 21 and 22+ years old who fit the eligibility criteria . This six week rotational program utilises a mixture of activities aimed towards increasing participants' personal confidence and social involvement.

Central Men's Shed is based in Newtown at the Salvation Army Bridge Program in Creek Road. The Shed provides an opportunity for men 18 and over to create simple products and furniture. Through the shed we aim to provide a supportive and encouraging environment for men to socialise, learn new and useful skills, gain confidence and selfesteem, and improve their employment potential.

The Argonaut Boat Partnership will continue from early 2006, beginning restoration of a 'Snipe', believed to be one of the last boats of its type built in Tasmania. This project operates out of the Central Men's Shed in Newtown and offers participants an avenue for further skill development, the opportunity to be involved in a project bigger than they could attempt independently, and the satisfaction that is derived from such an endeavour. Skills of a local shipwright or boat builder will be brought in to add expertise and quality workmanship to the project and the training of participants.
