Christmas Lunch
For many Tasmanians who may not have all the trimmings of Christmas, who may not have a home to enjoy Christmas in, or who may be alone and not have a place to go on the day - C47 offer a lunch, company and the spirit of Christmas. Colony 47 serves an average of 300 meals on the day. We aim to make it a fun day where people can come together and enjoy the day with others. Given our work within the community we know that Christmas can be a difficult time for some due to a large number of reasons. Coordinators are always overwhelmed with the numbers of people wanting to volunteer to assist on the day with registrations rolling in as early as September. Tasks are allocated ranging from assisting with the food preperation, decorating the hall, serving food and drinks and of course the big clean up afterwards. An overwhelming number of organisations, businesses and individuals donate food and gifts for people attending as well as providing financial assistance for the costs of the day ensuring no one will miss out. This generosity is a great demonstration from many parts of the community, all wanting to help other out at Christmas time. The big contributors for 2008 included Tasmanian Freemasons who generously donate the use of their Masonic Hall, Mr Robert Olding our chef on the day, ABC Giving Tree, Petrusma & Partners, Inghams, Wursthaus, Sweet As and many more. Please watch this space for regular updates on this iconic annual event. Volunteer registration forms will be able to be downloaded from this page from August as well as information regarding what is needed for the big day and how you can help.
