The 2011 Colony 47 Community Christmas Lunch - Another Big Success

February 2012

This year Colony 47 served 400 meals on Christmas Day and received many positive comments from people who enjoyed the day and were grateful for the difference it made to their experience of Christmas.

Through an enormous effort from over 100 volunteers, the Colony 47 Christmas Lunch Committee and generous donations from individuals and businesses in our community the 2011 Christmas Lunch was once again a tremendous success.

Chair of the Christmas Lunch Committee, Claudia Butler said the Colony 47 Community Christmas Lunch is a wonderful event and something we should all be proud of.

“Even though the economic climate is tough Colony 47 received enough support from the community, local businesses and as always the ABC Giving Tree to put on this event and spread Christmas cheer to 400 individuals and families,” she said.

For an ever increasing number of Tasmanians who may not have all the trimmings of Christmas, who may not have a home to enjoy Christmas in, or who may be alone and not have a place to go on the day – Colony 47 offer a traditional  lunch, company, entertainment and the spirit of Christmas.

Colony 47 recognises that it would be impossible to provide this very special Christmas celebration to Tasmanians without community contributions and support.

“The Hellenic Community has been very accommodating to the needs of the Christmas Lunch, the Hellenic Hall in North Hobart is a great venue with room for expansion and the good news is that we have been invited back,” said Ms Butler..

2012 will be a celebration of the 30th Colony 47 Community Christmas Lunch and we expect it to be bigger and better than ever.
