Vice
President

Alan
Shaw

Alan is along term Board member and has served for many years as president prior to our immediate past president.

I started as a volunteer in the night time Drop-in, now part of Community Central. I liked what I found in Colony 47; its values, its activities and its people and stayed.

Board
Secretary

Paddy
Byers

Paddy met the founder of Colony 47, Jim Colville, while studying for a degree in social work. She was encouraged to join the Board in 1978. As Director of Colony 47 Paddy worked on developing the organisation and services range in the time of transition from old style grants and contracts, before awards for staff salaries, pre-computers, and pre-governance (though Colony 47 recognised its importance very early) to the work practices of today. Prior to taking on the role of Director of Colony when Jim left the organisation her career involved:

  • working in the community sector - neighbourhood houses,
  • research for the Education Department with a particular focus on the needs of children with disabilities and Aboriginal people,
  • being part of a team establishing palliative care in Tasmania.

Paddy was theTasmanian representative on Jobs Australia for many years, as well as a member of TasCOSS, Shelter and many other community organisations. Paddy was also one of the founding board members of The Link Youth Health Service as well as Richmond Fellowship. Although she retired in 1995, Paddy has continued her association with Colony 47 as a Board member.

Andrew
Catchpole

Andrew brings experience from working within Hydro Tasmania as an IT and Business Consultant. He brings recent local knowledge in the contributions of larger organisational directions.

My connection to Colony was established through our esteemed past President who noticed I was looking for something real, human and fulfilling into which to put some of my 'spare' time Colony's appeal to me combines relevance, completeness and pragmatic care. I only hope I contribute as much as I take away.
