Welcome to Colony 47We are a proudly Tasmanian, not-for profit organisation offering services to disadvantaged Tasmanians for over thirty six years. Colony 47 began in 1973 as a drop-in centre at 47 Davey Street, Hobart for people who were isolated and vulnerable. Back then, Colony 47 offered services in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere to any person who needed help or someone to talk to. Today, we have expanded to provide a range of support services to Tasmanians in need across twenty six programs including;
Colony 47 continues to offer our services in a friendly supportive atmosphere as our founders intended. We have just opened an Aboriginal referral and information service in Launceston and look forward to offering more new services in northern Tasmania. Over the past twelve months demand for Colony 47 services has increased substantially as living costs in Tasmania continue to rise. Colony 47 is committed to finding ways to deliver quality services to Tasmanians whilst endeavouring to work towards building a socially just community. |
Christmas Lunch
For many Tasmanians who may not have all the trimmings of Christmas, who may not have a home to enjoy Christmas in, or who may be alone and not have a place to go on the day - C47 offer a lunch, company and the spirit of Christmas. Colony 47 serves an average of 300 meals on the day. We aim to make it a fun day where people can come together and enjoy the day with others. Given our work within the community we know that Christmas can be a difficult time for some due to a large number of reasons. |
Colony NOAKES Sailing
Hobart is the next stop in the ongoing series of Noakes Youth Regattas and this weekend Noakes Youth founder Sean Langman will travel to Hobart to host a regatta to bring together young people from different backgrounds. Noakes Youth sailors from Perth, Sydney and the Huon will join eight Tasmanian youth selected by Colony 47 for a two day sailing regatta on the Derwent River. The Derwent Sailing Squadron (DSS) and its members will provide three J24s and the race management for the regatta that is ultimately not about competition and essentially not about sailing. It’s the medium Noakes has chosen to bring the group of 16-25 year olds together to interact in a social environment and develop the essential skills of leadership, teamwork, co-operation, communication and confidence. Colony 47 is delighted to be working alongside Noakes Youth to provide recreational opportunities for young people who access a range of Colony 47 youth programs that focus on housing, employment, education and mentoring.
